From oncogenic viruses to chromatin and cancer
Small DNA tumour viruses became a system of choice to study chromosome structure, gene expression and cellular transformation in the seventies.
Our interest in chromatin and cancer brought us later to study chromatin remodelling complexes and their function. I will review the function of the SWI/SNF complex in development and organogenesis and attempt to define what can be called an epigenetic cancer caused by mutation in SWI/SNF subunits.
